In communities across Zimbabwe, the fight against hunger remains urgent, but thanks to the LIFE Feeding Programme, hope is being restored daily through the power of partnership and compassion. A collaboration between Empower Tomorrow and ProDairy, the LIFE Feeding Programme is on a mission to improve child nutrition and well-being in areas most affected by food insecurity. With a bold target to serve over 500,000 hot meals, the programme is reaching deep into communities like Mabvuku, Tafara, Ruwa, Hatcliffe, Goromonzi, Mbare, and Epworth, delivering more than just food, but also dignity, care, and opportunity.
At the heart of this initiative is the tireless work of local caregivers. In Mbare, the Felly Orphanage is home to approximately 98 children, many of whom have faced loss, trauma, or abandonment. Here, caregivers like Amai Tavengwa are not only feeding hungry stomachs, they’re nurturing young hearts and minds. With each warm meal served, children receive more than nutrition. They are given emotional support, access to education, and the safety of a structured, loving environment. For many, it’s the first time they’ve known what it means to be truly cared for.
“These meals are a lifeline,” says Amai Tavengwa. “They keep the children healthy, focused, and ready to learn. But beyond that, they know someone believes in them.”
Good nutrition lays the foundation for healthy childhood development. By ensuring that children receive consistent, balanced meals, the LIFE Feeding Programme is contributing directly to better school attendance, stronger immunity, and improved emotional well-being. It’s a critical intervention in breaking the cycle of poverty and malnutrition.
Empower Tomorrow and ProDairy believe that investing in children is investing in the future of the nation. Their community-led approach works in tandem with local leaders, schools, and caregivers, ensuring sustainable impact rooted in compassion and accountability.
